Beaufort County officials advise drivers to plan ahead for lane closures and slowed traffic due to debris removal operations on US 278 and SC 170, beginning this Sunday morning, December 4.
Temporary lane closures will occur on Highway 278 on Sunday, December 4 between 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. while crews remove hazardous trees and limbs.
The crew will then remove trees from Highway 170. The highway debris removal projects are expected to finish early Monday morning.
Traffic will be controlled through the work zones via signs and traffic control devices. Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution when approaching work zones.
Debris removers continue working throughout the area. Contractors estimate removal is about 90% complete from the first pass with the exception of the private communities which began on October 18. As of today, contractors have collected more than 750,000 cubic yards of storm-generated debris.
The debris removal contractors will begin a second pass in most areas of the County beginning Monday, December 5. Citizens are asked to put remaining debris in the right-of-way.
Anyone with questions about debris removal may call the debris removal hotline at 843-685-9880. Residents are also encouraged to visit www.beaufortcountydisasterrecovery.net.
