Twenty-three-year-old Antonio Demond Watkins, who allegedly shot a man in the head at a Flint, Michigan gas station on August 30, 2011, was arrested on Monday, February 4 on St. Helena Island.
According to reports, three days after the shooting, Watkins was identified by police as a suspect. On September 8, 2011, Watkins was charged with murder and weapons violations by the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office.
After attempting to flee, Watkins was caught and arrested by deputies on Eddings Point Road, according to reports. According to the Beaufort County Detention Center’s online database, this is Watkins’ first arrest in Beaufort County.
Watkins, a native of Flint, is being held at the detention center awaiting extradition to Michigan. The U.S. Marshal Service is in charge of the investigation.
