A Ridgeland man was arrested Thursday morning, January 24, after turning himself into authorities for allegedly spying on women in the bathroom at the bank where he was employed.
Twenty-seven-year-old Richard Aaron Hayes has been charged with one count of Voyeurism after investigators learned that he had allegedly been watching women in the ladies restroom at the PNC Bank located at 4 Office Way on Hilton Head Island. A fellow employee notified law enforcement of suspicious activity after reportedly finding a ladder in the men’s restroom at the bank.
The employee reported she was conducting a security walk-through at the bank when she noticed the ladder leaning against a wall in the men’s restroom, which adjoins the ladies’ restroom. After seeing the ladder, she began to take note of a reportedly odd pattern of behavior by Hayes, with him allegedly always going to the men’s restroom each time a woman went to the ladies’ restroom.
During inspection, investigators reportedly found a hole in the ceiling tile above a toilet in the ladies’ bathroom, which allegedly allowed Hayes to look into the bathroom from the ladder in the men’s room. It is believed by investigators that Hayes, who was employed as the Teller Supervisor, has been engaging in this alleged behavior over the course of the last several months, spying on female employees and bank customers in the restroom.
According to the Beaufort County Detention Center’s online database, this was Hayes’ first arrest.
At this time, no additional victims have been identified; however, the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact either Investigator Cpl. J. Moran at 843-255-3422 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC (274-6372) or text the word TIPSC with a message to CRIMES (274637).
