The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged armed robbery that occurred early Saturday morning, January 19, on the South end of Hilton Head Island.
Just before 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning, deputies responded to the area of Treetops apartments to an armed robbery that occurred minutes earlier. After arriving, deputies met with a 31-year-old man said that he had just been robbed by an unknown man.
The victim reported that he had seen the suspect who allegedly robbed him at the Kangaroo Express convenience store just prior to the robbery. The suspect reportedly approached the victim and tried to convince him to go with him to Cordillo Courts to “meet some girls.” The victim reportedly declined, then got into his car and began driving home.
While driving, the victim reportedly noticed a vehicle following closely behind him. The victim pulled onto Lemoyne Drive and stopped. After getting out of his car, he was allegedly approached by the same man he’d seen at the store. The suspect, reportedly armed with a tire iron, allegedly frisked the victim, taking his wallet out of his pockets.
The suspect then allegedly pointed a pistol at the victim’s head and took cash from the victim’s wallet. The suspect reportedly returned the empty wallet to the victim, got back into a small, black pickup truck, and fled the area. The victim was unharmed during the incident.
Investigators have since identified the suspect as 41-year-old Dwan Valentino Doe. Warrants were obtained for Doe for Armed Robbery and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Just after 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, January 23, deputies spotted Doe in his vehicle in the area of US Hwy 278 and New Orleans Road. A traffic stop was initiated, however, Doe reportedly refused to stop, leading deputies on a brief vehicle pursuit.
Doe reportedly continued to the area of Folly Field Beach Park where he struck a chain blocking the parking lot. Doe reportedly then fled the vehicle on foot but was quickly apprehended. At the time of his arrest, Doe’s was allegedly found to be in possession of approximately 4.5 g of crack cocaine.
In addition to outstanding warrants for the armed robbery, Doe was also charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine, Fleeing to Evade Arrest/Detention, and Failure to Stop for Blue Lights. He was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center without further incident.
According to the Beaufort County Detention Center’s online database, this was Doe’s sixth arrest. He has previously been arrested on traffic charges, drug charges, weapons charges, armed robbery, and kidnapping.
