Around mid-day on Tuesday, July 12, a passing motorist notified the Beaufort County Emergency Dispatch 9-1-1 of a man jumping off one of the Hilton Head Island bridges.
Just after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, a man reportedly jumped off of the eastbound Hilton Head Island Bridge into the Intracoastal Waterway and swam ashore to C.C. Haigh landing. A passing motorist notified Sheriff’s Office Emergency Dispatch 9-1-1 and deputies responded.
The man, identified as 47-year-old Kenneth Nusser of Ridgeland, was found by deputies walking out of the wooded area. He was treated by Emergency Medical Services for minor injuries and was released into the custody of deputies.
Nusser was arrested and charged with violating Beaufort County Ordinance “jumping or diving from bridges and piers”. Nusser was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
