Shooting death in Sheldon Posted on August 22, 2017 by S Y WoodsAugust 22, 2017 At around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting incident that occurred on Leaping Frog Lane in Sheldon. After arriving, deputies secured the scene and summoned Emergency Medical Services. The shooting victim, later identified as 40-year-old Lamont Manigo of Yemassee, had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was confirmed dead at the scene by EMS. The Coroner’s Office is scheduling a forensic autopsy, which will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Witnesses reported the suspect fled the area on a bicycle, and described him as an African-American man in his mid-twenties, wearing a white t-shirt. Sheriff’s Office deputies are actively searching for the subject at this time. We urge you to temporarily avoid the area, as he is considered armed and dangerous. Residents can expect increased law enforcement presence in the Sheldon area over the next several hours.
