St. Helena home burglarized, suspect still at large Posted on August 28, 2017 by S Y WoodsAugust 28, 2017 A man fled on foot after burglarizing a home on Ball Park Road on St. Helena Island late Monday morning, August 28 is still at large. At approximately 11:30 this morning, a homeowner reported he received a telephone call from his teenage son that an man was trying to break into the residence. The homeowner drove to his residence and reportedly saw a man around the side of his house carrying what appeared to be a long rifle. The homeowner reportedly shot at the man once with a small caliber handgun and man fled into a wooded area on foot. After responding to the Ball Park Road home, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies set up a perimeter. K-9 units were called and conducted a track to locate the suspect, which proved unsuccessful. The suspect was described by the homeowner as an African-American man, 6’00” tall, 150-160 pounds, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and white gym style shorts. Although a broken window was found, it is unclear whether the subject actually gained entry to the residence or if anything was stolen. There was no evidence found at the scene to indicate the subject was wounded by the homeowner.
