St. Helena Island shooting wounds man, person of interest located Posted on October 8, 2017 by S Y WoodsOctober 8, 2017 The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting on St. Helena Island that happened Sunday evening, October 8, that left one man wounded. Deputies responded to a report of a gunshot victim on Deacon Heyward Road on St. Helena Island at approximately 6:25 p.m. Sunday evening. When they arrived, deputies found the gunshot victim, as well as the person of interest in the shooting. Deputies secured the scene and called Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to respond and treat the victim, who sustained a wound to his upper body. EMS personnel transported the wounded man to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital for additional treatment. The person of interest and witnesses are being interviewed by Sheriff’s Office investigators. Residents in the area of Deacon Heyward Road can expect increased law enforcement activity over the next few hours. There is no public safety threat. The condition of the wounded man is unknown as of this time and will be released as soon as that information becomes available.
