On Tuesday, January 22, Beaufort police responded to the Dollar General Store at Beaufort Plaza to a reported shoplifting.
After arriving, the officers met with the manager outside the store. The manager reported two women had allegedly placed cosmetic items into their purses and that they were in the checkout line.
The two suspects apparently noticed the manager on the phone and the arrival of officers, at which point they reportedly left the checkout line and went back into the store. Officers detained the two women, who reportedly initially denied taking anything.
Officers quickly reviewed the video surveillance footage from the store and reportedly saw the women stuffing merchandise into their purses. The footage showed that the women allegedly removed some of the merchandise and tried to conceal it underneath display racks after officers arrived at the store.
Both women were charged with shoplifting and booked into the county jail. According to the Beaufort County Detention Center’s online database, Jessica Pierce has been arrested 13 times on charges including shoplifting, trespassing, assault and battery, criminal domestic violence, and child abuse/neglect. Jasmine Riley has been arrested three times for minor charges.
