The victims in two recent unrelated fire deaths have been positively identified.
Fifty-five year-old John Porzio was found dead inside the burning remains a camper on Alljoy Road on Monday, January 28. The following morning, the body of 33-year-old Amanda Ryan was found in a vehicle fire discovered on the side of May River Road.
Deputies and firefighters responded to 83 Alljoy Road just after 12:00 noon on Monday, January 28, to a structure fire. After arriving, a camper trailer parked behind the residence at that location was found to be completely engulfed in flames. The homeowner said that his brother, John Porzio, had been living in the camper and was believed to still be inside. When the fire was extinguished, Porzio was found inside and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, a Honda Civic was found by Bluffton police on fire on the side of May River Road. When the fire was extinguished, the body of Amanda Ryan was found inside the vehicle in the driver’s seat as the sole occupant. She was also pronounced dead at the scene.
While the cause of each fire remains undetermined at this time, investigators have found no evidence of foul play to suggest that either fire was intentionally set. Preliminary autopsy findings indicate that both victims died of asphyxiation due to smoke inhalation.
